goodwins theory

 Goodwin’s theory was to approach the narrative to a video in 3 different ways:

Illustration - using visions and images to tell the story of the song


Amplification – that’s the deeper message behind video is amplified out


Disjunction - something that has nothing to do with the song at all

example of illustration:   

mistletoe by Justin Bieber is an example of illustration as the video runs in parallel with the lyrics and also is cut to the beat with the musics rhythm. 

Example of disjunction:

an example of disjunction is lady gaga bad romance the music video has nothing to do with what she is doing, however the genre is still shown. 

an example of amplification: 

an example of amplification is Michael Jackson black and white, the video may not scream what is is about but is shows the hidden meaning behind the song, all different cultures and races coming together
