planning our location

test shoot reflection

 Test Shoot Reflection

For what was attached shoot I think that it went very well we made the most of what we had and we tried to include all the best that we wanted to try in our music video To get it reasonable idea of what it could look like. The whole point of the test shoot was to see what would work And what wouldn't. And as a group we felt that at the end of shooting we had completed this goal. In terms of setting up it did take a little while for us to get everything together and we had to make do of what space we had but working together as a team we managed to come out with the best possible outcome.

Can't getting the band all together in advanced however somethings cropped up meaning that we couldn't have them all in the same place at the same time this wasn't as bad as we first thought as we could film their solo bits and joint bits with who we had which also then meant that we didn't waste any of the band members time, however when it came to them all being together we couldn't exactly get the shots that we initially wanted to get and therefore leaving a big question mark next to them. We shot over a few days and we gathered as much footage as we possibly could.

I think as a team we worked really well and we tried our best with what we had we weren't able to get all the footage that we wanted however we managed to piece together a video that we were happy with and that we thought that we could further develop doing the test shoot was very beneficial as it highlighted our good and bad areas which we could then progress from. It also allowed us to get to know our band members a lot better than what they'd be like in front of the real camera this was also very helpful in our understanding of how the video will turn out in the end. If I could change one thing for next time it would be better organisation skills when it comes to getting the band together and also time management when shooting and one thing that I feel that we did well was working together as a team we all slotted into our roles well And we had a good understanding of everyone around us and what they were trying to do.

Back up Cast

Due to covid complications we have decided to make a emergency backup cast list. This is so we have a prepared cast ready to go if anything may go wrong. This back up cast will be informed that they are our back up cast and will be shown our test shoot and the song so they have a good understanding of the task at hand. This is very important as if someone said they were unable to make it we would have someone that can replace them instantly this means that we wont wast anytime finding a replacement and teaching them the entire shoot.

here is our back up cast list:

Singer:

  • Roualeyn Alford
Bass Guitar:
  • Aran Tharmaratnam
Guitar:
  • Oscar Boatswain
Drummer:
  • George Robertson
  • Tommy Mclung

story boards

Here our final storyboards as a group we have split up responsibilities and all contributed to the process, the storyboards are vital to our planning proses and give us a really  good indication and representation of our shoot and also the layout it allows us to but our thoughts to paper and really helps us to visualise what it could look like. It also helps us look at different angles and shots that may go well with what is happening in the song.

Here is our story board:

costume and props

when it comes to our costume and props we have kept it very minimal and simple we don’t have any crazy and extravagant props only the ones that we really need. all of the band members will have there instruments with them in the performance aspect this consists of:

there costumes are going to be quite basic they are going to be relatively dark colours and minimalistic they will all be wearing similar things but not quite the same but following the same style.

test shoot

Here is our test shoot we did the shoot over 3 days we did a range of different shots the reason we did this test shoot was to trial some of our shots and see what would work and to see what wouldn’t. it tested our organisation skills and our preparation skills is was the closest to the real thing that we are going to get and so it gave us a good representation of what it could look like and also helped us visualise the layout.

email of the set designs

Here is the email I sent through of all our set designs and our digital design, I sent this to my teacher who is then going to pass it on to our set designer so she knows what she has to get and also have a second look and check them over. I did this because it is crucial she gets these in time so that we are able to guarantee our full set.

development and targets

For my development target I looked at our locations we started of with 28 different locations around Guildford as a group we looked into them in a lot more detail and we covered things like distance accessibility, how we wanted it to look visually and also safety. we also talked about how many locations we would want and we did this by looking at our song choice and deciding the placement of were they would go. in the end we chose 5 different locations out of the 28. This will make the job on the day a lot more simple and less stress full and also give us more time. all these locations a relatively close together minimising our filming time and they all give off the right feel of the song.

here are our 5 locations:

feedback on set designs

As a group we collected all our set design images and we went up to the midi suit to talk with our set designer. we talked over all of our designs and what we wanted them to look and feel like. This was crucial to our planing proses as it showed us what we would and what we wouldn’t be able to do, we also talked over some different ideas that would make our designs even better. for example our corridor design we originally had all the walls and the floor in black however when we talked over this prospect we realised having a white floor would have more dimension and also would be a safer filming environment.

in terms of our cramped room idea we first came up with the idea of having a roof over the band members to create the claustrophobic atmosphere we as were were talking through this the set designer suggested that we created this feel with lighting instead of an actual roof this would still give us the same feel we wanted but it would also take less time to execute. These we all adjustments that we were willing to make and as a group we were very happy of the outcome of the meeting and we are confident everything will look how we want it to look and how it will feel.

finding shoot locations

On the weekend I drove to Guildford to look and find some possible locations for our shoot. I started at the bottom of Guildford and I worked my way up looking for ally ways, long stair cases and any urban looking locations that would be suitable. the reason that I looked at Guildford was that is was the closes city that would have these urban locations and it wasn’t going to take us a huge time to get there. the reason I did this was to make sure we were prepared on the day and didn’t waste time looking for locations on the day. I also did this to make sure we had many options so we could fin the perfect locations. I also tried going a bit later in the eventing to try and get a feel of what it would look like.

here are the images I took:
